Moderating Intercultural Collaboration and Language Learning

What is MICaLL?

MICaLL is a Socrates-Comenius 2.1 Project (2004-2007), made up of a partnership of 15 organisations based in 6 EU countries.

The project aims to promote the development of teacher competencies involved in designing and managing network-based language learning. The extensive experience and know-how gleaned from the 3-year MICaLL project, as well as samples of material, tips and theory have been compiled into a teacher's handbook and translated into the languages of the project (Czech, Dutch, French, German, Spanish and Catalan). Additionally a CDrom has been made that offers a compilation of the different virtual classroom sites and glimpses of how they were used, as well as PowerPoint presentations describing several of the telecollaborative projects between the schools. The output from the project is designed to support teacher education at both initial and continued education levels.

The materials contribute to making the Teacher Education curriculum more competence based, by offering examples of practical experiences in network-based language teaching and learning. Plans for wider participation and training to be offered (after 2007), through a Comenius In-service Course are being developed.

If you are interested in receiving a sample copy of the handbook or CDrom, please send an email to the Project manager melindaann.dooly@uab.cat  Please indicate in which language you would like to receive the handbook.

If you are interested in knowing more about participating in the Comenius Inservice course, please get in touch with MICaLL partner, Ton Koenraad. ton.koenraad@hu.nl
